S&C Alduti-Rupter Switches provide no-external-arc circuit interruption for overhead distribution feeders and outdoor distribution substations. They are ideally suited for the following switching duties:

  • Line switching
  • Transformer switching
  • Cable switching

Alduti-Rupter Switches are available in voltage ratings through 69 kV in seven rugged group-operated, three-pole styles. They can be tailored to suit any configuration and mount on any structure. Alduti-Rupter Switches are offered in ratings of 600 through 2400 amperes continuous and 1600 amperes interrupting.

For your heavy-duty station and feeder applications — thru 69 kV

  • Adaptable to any station structure with broad choice of standard and custom mounting arrangements
  • Live switching through 1600 A simplifies switching procedures . . . saves time, reduces errors
  • Blade-to-interrupter sequencing ensures interrupters are closed when the switch is closed
  • Unmatched performance for 38-kV and 48-kV feeders with ultra-smooth single- or double-break interruption . . . plus duty-cycle fault closing
  • Proven through full-scale testing in the laboratory and the field . . . at maximum voltages, currents, and TRVs
  • Available with power operation for distribution automation or source transfer . . . with S&C’s high-speed operators matched to Alduti-Rupter and the application

For applications where there is no need for simultaneous three-phase switching, single-pole Alduti-Rupter Switches are an excellent alternative; they’re conveniently operated with a conventional hookstick.

Because Alduti-Rupter Switches can switch loaded or unloaded lines, transformers, and cables, they are ideally suited for remote supervisory control or fully automatic operation when equipped with an S&C Switch Operator–Type AS-1A (for switches with rotating operating mechanisms) or Type AS-10 (for switches with reciprocating operating mechanisms).

6801M Automatic Switch Operators

6801M Automatic Switch Control

6801M Automatic Switch Operators are fully integrated, microprocessor-based controls that let you automate almost any distribution-class switch and are an ideal match for Alduti-Rupter Switches. By combining and testing the electromechanical components, RTU, control, and communications as a single package, we also added intelligence, increased reliability, and reduced costs.

S&C 6801M Automatic Switch Operators are available in two versions—torsional, for rotating-type mechanisms, and reciprocating, for reciprocating-type operating mechanisms. Both versions operate in 0.5 seconds. This high operating speed is fully compatible with the moving-contact velocity required by the interrupters to ensure full interrupting capability for the applicable switch styles and mounting arrangements.

AS-1A and AS-10 Switch Operators

AS-1A Switch Operator

Types AS-1A and AS-10 Switch Operators are high-speed operators expressly designed for power operation of S&C Alduti-Rupter Switches.

  • Type AS-1A Switch Operators are intended for use with S&C Alduti-Rupter Switches with rotating-type operating mechanisms and have a maximum operating time of 0.75 second.
  • Type AS-10 Switch Operators are intended for use with S&C Alduti-Rupter Switches with reciprocating-type operating mechanisms and have a maximum operating time of 1.2 seconds. This high operating speed provides sufficient moving-contact velocity in the Alduti-Rupter Switch interrupters to ensure full interrupting capability and long operating life.

A variety of mounting configurations are available, tailored to the most popular overhead-distribution line designs. Refer to S&C Publication 761-80 for standard mounting arrangements.
